If you want to be a professional, or even an amateur broadcaster, you need to have a microphone arm to hold it. It makes sure that your volume will be a lot more stable, it makes sure that you don’t have constant sounds of the microphone moving or bumping into things or being dropped. It also makes sure that you are going to be able to keep track of your microphone, to be able to mount a filter between your mouth and your microphone, and even better, to be able to keep the microphone stable during a broadcast or recording.

Now then, let’s take a look at the specific microphones that we reviewed, to see which may be the best mic boom arm for your uses.

1

Neewer Microphone Suspension Boom Scissor Arm Stand – The Basic Model

Neewer not only has a funny name, but they are also very well represented when it comes to the mic boom arm market. They have a lot of offerings in the market, and they are doing a lot of good work to make sure that you will be able to enjoy a stable microphone while you are broadcasting.

Now, before I go into too much discussion about this microphone boom stand, I have to make one thing very clear; if you are looking to get it to hold a microphone that doesn’t fit into the 1.26” mic clip, you can find other adaptors. It’s not hard to screw in a new one for almost all of the microphone boom arms that we took a look at, honestly. If you’ve got a weird microphone that isn’t common, the most important thing is that you know the weight that the mic stand can hold, and for the most part, that hovers around two pounds of mic weight.

Anyhow, this is a great standard mic boom arm, especially if you’re not using an extremely heavy mic. It clips easily onto an average sized desk, so if you’re broadcasting from a home desk or even from a normal sized dinner table, you’re going to be fine. It holds up to two pounds, and the adapter is good for the majority of common microphone sizes.

If you’re looking for an affordable mic arm, this is a good choice for you, and definitely one that will not break the bank.

PROS
  • Well designed
  • Easy to use
  • Good for most microphones
CONS
  • Plain
  • No mic filter
2

RODE PSAI Swivel Mount Microphone Boom Arm – The Simple Solution

This is a much simpler arm than any other one that we reviewed. Of course, the downside there is that if you’re looking for something that will clip to your desk or something like that, you’re going to be disappointed, but it’s also a very inexpensive piece of equipment, so if you find you don’t quite like it, you can go ahead and switch it out with another piece of equipment.

I’m not going to say it’s the best boom arm overall, but if you are looking for a nice boom arm that will be easy to use, this is a good one for you. Rode provides you with a boom arm that doesn’t rely on tension, so much as it relies on the use of screws. Tighten the screws down, and you will have it locked in place just how you like it. Loosen them to move the microphone around.

Now, that does come with a bit of a downside. The downside, quite obviously, is that if you’re looking for a boom arm that you can adjust on the fly, something like Rush Limbaugh uses, for example (whether you like him or not, you have to admit that he has the best broadcasting equipment), which allows for easy adjustment with just one hand, then this is not it. But then again, if you’re looking for something like that, you’re looking to spend quite a bit more money, and you probably don’t need that.

For an easy and simple mic boom arm, this is a great choice, and possibly the best choice.

PROS
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to put together
  • Holds a decent amount of weight
CONS
  • Very simple
  • No filter included

Etubby Adjustable Desktop Mic Boom Arm – The Universal Option

There are a number of ways to mount a microphone boom arm, but the simplest way for you to be able to do this is to mount it to your desk with what is essentially a vice. It makes it a lot easier to find a place to mount the microphone boom arm that will also be stable and will not be likely to be easily moved, it makes it simple to find where it is, and it’s good for making sure that the microphone will not end up moving very often. Heck, if you mount a microphone in the right area of your desk, you will never need to move the mounting point again!

The best microphone boom stand would be one that not only is unobtrusive among the rest of your equipment and whatnot, but one that will be able to be used with almost any microphone. Now, sure, there are some microphones that it will not work with; that is bound to happen when you have so wide a variety of microphones out there in the world. But it will handle most of the microphones in common use, and hold them up well.

The spring-loaded tension system is also a good idea, but the best part is that it is so easy to use, and due to the spring-tension system, you can rotate your microphone (and the boom arm) on the fly as needed.

All things considered, this is one of the better, and less expensive mic boom arms that we took a look at.

PROS
  • Well designed and able to work with most microphones in use
  • Easy to mount to your desk
  • Can be moved with ease while in use
CONS
  • Not really anything to complain about here

InnoGear Suspension Mic Clip Adjustable Boom For Blue Snowball And Blue Yeti – The Blue Mic Arm

Blue is a microphone maker that has had a lot of success in the modern market because they were quick to come up with microphones that were designed to be used with a computer. If you want a cost-effective, high-quality microphone that you can use in order to produce a podcast, for example, or to make content to put up on YouTube (which is a huge market, if the success of people like PewdiePie is to be believed), Blue is one of the best options for you out on the market right now.

If you’ve got a Blue Snowball or Blue Yeti microphone, then this is the boom arm for you. If you’re looking for a microphone arm for a Blue Yeti or Blue Snowball, there is just no way to get around it; this suspension boom arm is designed to be the best for you. They are easy to move on the fly, they’re easy to adjust, and they are literally built around the idea of working with those two specific Blue microphone designs.

Honestly, the only complaint that I have is that there’s not filter mount, but you can probably find one for yourself for a few bucks, and with a few more bucks spent on filters, you’ll have that taken care of. If you’re using a Blue Snowball or Yeti microphone, there is absolutely no reason for you to not pick this boom arm for your microphone.

PROS
  • Designed to work with the Blue Yeti or Blue Snowball microphone, and probably the best microphone boom arm on the market for those two microphone designs
  • Easy to adjust on the fly
  • Can be mounted to most average sized desks with ease
CONS
  • Does not come with a filter included.
  • Not great for any microphone that is not the Blue Yeti or Blue Snowball

Neewer NW-700 Pro Studio Broadcasting Mic and Arm Bundle – The Starter Package

Let’s say that today, you have a fantastic idea about what you can do online, in a podcast or a YouTube video or something like that, but you realize that you need a microphone so that you will be able to record your voice without it sounding terrible and canned like it will through your cell phone or your onboard microphone on your laptop. There are a couple of things you’ll want in order to get that off the ground. You’re going to want a microphone, you’re going to want a boom arm, you’re probably going to want to get a filter as well. If you’re in that situation, these fine folks over at Neewer have you covered, being willing to sell you the whole bundle at one affordable price.

The microphone is a decent microphone, as are most of the products that Neewer makes, but if you’re looking for a great arm, there are few that are going to be as good as the NW-35 that comes standard in this package.

But best of all, when you buy this bundle, you are going to find that it comes with a lovely filter and a filter mount (as shown in the image above), which means that you are not going to have to go and buy that on its own. Definitely something great, and a big saver of time and money. If you buy this bundle, you’re getting pretty much everything you need, aside from some cables, in order to be able to start broadcasting today.

PROS
  • Easy to use
  • Comes with everything you will need to get started
  • Mounts to most any desk
CONS
  • Not a great deal if you already have a mic; think of this as more of a ‘starter pack’
6

Marantz Professional Pod Pack Boom Arm Bundle – The Marantz Bundle

Marantz is another one of those names that has been involved in the world of microphones for quite some time, and that means that if you’re getting Marantz equipment, you are buying quality gear. The fact is that not only is their Pod microphone a decent microphone, but their boom arms are also something to be marveled at.

What makes this boom arm and microphone bundle so good? Well, the microphone is a decent microphone on its own, to be sure, but the boom arm that comes with it is the very definition of ‘ease of use’. It’s a microphone boom arm that can be installed almost anywhere, and one that has a lot of power to it, so the microphone is going to remain stable and unmoved until you decide to grab the boom arm and to move it.

The only downside is if you are not looking to use this microphone with this boom arm, but honestly, there are adaptors out there that will allow you to use most microphones with this arm; all that you have to do is know where to look (Amazon is usually a good place to star), and you can overcome that minor issue with ease.

PROS
  • Easy to use
  • A good bundle with a great microphone
  • Very sturdy
CONS
  • Designed to work with their microphones, may not be as effective with other brands, even with appropriate adaptors

Neewer NB-35 Microphone Suspension Boom Scissor Arm – The Gold Standard Model

If you need a microphone that will allow you to not only mount most common handheld microphones, but also one that comes along with a filter and that will be great for you to use. Plus, to be honest, the Neewer mic arm designs are some of the best ones that are out on the market at this moment.

If you don’t’ have a microphone that is made for handheld use, that’s not a problem at all; you will find that getting an adaptor for whatever kind of microphone you usually use is no problem at all, so long as the microphone is not one of those weird custom types.

If you’re looking for a great mic stand, look no further than the Neweer NB-35. I cannot say enough good things about it, and honestly, it is one of the easiest to work with on the market. The one big complaint I have with it is that I wish it was a little longer, or perhaps even had another segment on it, but that’s just nitpicking at this point.

PROS
  • Well designed and made to last
  • Easy to use and easy to handle
  • Quality microphone boom
CONS
  • Nothing to really complain about with this model

Best Mic Boom Arm - Buyer's Guide

Microphones and mic boom arms are very complex. If you’re looking to spend money on one, you’re probably also worried about what happens if you pick the wrong one. Thankfully, there’s a little bit of information here to help make sure you don’t make a mistake.

Can Any Arm Hold Any Mic?

The answer to this question is ‘most likely’, so long as the microphone that you’re looking to use is not some sort of weird custom microphone (yes, people get their own microphones built. It is insanely expensive most of the time, too).

The real questions to ask are this. Firstly, is it possible to mount an adapter to the mic boom that will fit your microphone of choice. For the most part, the answer to this question is yes, it just takes a bit of knowhow and a willingness to spend a bit of time searching on the internet.

Secondly, does the microphone arm have the ability to hold up the weight of your mic. Some of these arms are designed to hold a certain amount of weight, and not much more. So, if you have an unusually heavy microphone, you may be in trouble.

But, generally, most boom arms can hold just about any commonly used microphone with a bit of adaptation.

Will It Mount To My Desk?

Is your desk thicker than your thumb is long? Is it basically a solid piece of wood with drawers on it that doesn’t have any edges that you could possibly mount anything on? If the answer to the question is yes, it may not mount to your desk. Of course, you’d be one of the unusual ones, to be sure.

There are alternative ways to mount a microphone, though, so don’t worry; there are things you can do, no matter what boom arm you pick.

Conclusion

So, if you are looking for the best microphone boom arms for your home use, these are just a few of the great ones that are out on the market right now. There are quite a few good options that you can find online right now, but these are the best.

But which one is the singular best microphone? Well, that may be something of debate to some, but I would argue that it is the Neewer NB-35 microphone suspension boom arm. It comes with a good mount for the average handheld microphone. It comes with a filter and a mount for that filter. It mounts easily to desks, and is easy to use and to adjust on the fly. Literally everything about it is designed to make it easy to use and easy to adjust, and that is exactly what you want when you’re broadcasting or recording from your home.

Whichever of these microphone boom arms you choose, you are likely to find that it is a great boom arm, and one that you don’t need to consider changing unless you make it big.
