Classic Brands - Best Product for Allergy Sufferers

Many times, when we’re speaking of cooling pillows, you have to sacrifice either cooling gel or memory foam. One typically outweighs the other. However, with Classic Brands’ Reversible Cool Gel Memory Foam Pillow, you truly have a two-in-one! No more sacrificing! The memory foam surrounds a pad of cool gel to give you that cool feeling when you’re asleep, without having to keep flipping over your pillow to get comfortable.

The pillow responds to body temperature and pressure to allow it to mold to your specific shape and support your neck and head the way it should be. By reducing the pressure points between the head, neck, and shoulders, you’ll fall asleep quicker and experience more comfort. Conventional memory foam is more dense, however, the foam used in this Classic Brands cool gel pillow is more porous, which makes it more breathable and moldable. Increased airflow helps to disperse body heat which helps prevent you from overheating.

Allergy sufferers will also love this gel pillow, as it is naturally hypoallergenic. It is easy to clean, as the cover simply zips off and can be thrown straight into the washing machine. The only downside we found, is that the memory foam did have an odor about it. However, this typically went away after letting it air out without the cover.

PROS
  • Great for allergy sufferers
  • One memory foam side, and one cool gel side
  • Supports upper body well
  • Easy-to-clean cover
CONS
  • Odor tends to linger until you air it out

ViscoSoft Arctic Gel - Best Product for Neck Injury

Chances are, you’ve heard about memory foam and it’s incredible relief and soothing benefits when it comes to sleep, but perhaps you haven’t heard of a cooling pillow that provides that relief with cooling quite like ViscoSoft’s Arctic Gel Cooling Pillow. Right away, you’ll notice that it’s streamlined and very “cool”-looking. It’s one of those products that you find yourself just itching to lay your head on! If you’re looking for a cooling pillow but also something that will provide support for neck issues, then this should be yours.

The unique WaveFlow Gel Technology gives you that refreshing, cool feeling; almost like Orbit Mint gum, but better. The technology creates heat dispersion, regulating your body temperature and keeping the gel side cool. It also features specially-crafted polyester fibers made to encourage proper airflow and breathability. Their CoolMax fabric uses special technology to absorb and wick moisture away from your skin so you feel dry and cool all night. While most cooling pillows only use a pad of gel in their pillows, ViscoSoft’s pillow uses 30% more! That’s two full pounds of cooling gel to make sure you don’t overheat, even in the hottest of climates.

This pillow takes special care of your neck, all through the night. The pillow features a unique design which stabilizes and supports the neck and head by keeping it in proper alignment with the rest of your spine. By doing this, the muscles in your neck and upper back will be relaxed and finally at ease after taking on the day. The memory foam included also assists with this by providing a surface that is neither too hard or too soft; just perfect for comfortable support. By using your body temperature and pressure, the memory foam naturally molds to your body’s unique shape for the perfect design. At your every move throughout the night, the pillow will adjust with you to keep your spine aligned and supported.  The ergonomic design works best with side and back sleepers, and will most likely be too thick for stomach sleepers.

If you have a sensitivity to allergens, don’t fret; the pillow cover is hypoallergenic and by repelling moisture, it also helps to repel germs. The sanitary pillow cover is easily removable, and to wash you just throw it in the washing machine! It comes with a three year warranty, so you don’t have to stress at all about purchasing this amazing cooling pillow!

Best Cooling Pillow - Buyer's Guide

We know it may seem simple in theory, but selecting the best cooling pillow for your personal needs and desires isn’t always easy; especially when doing it online! While the products we have listed above are undoubtedly amazing, there are some things to consider before making your purchase. Not to worry! We’ve taken it upon ourselves to create a buying guide for you. This is designed to give you a detailed rundown of each aspect to take into consideration before making your final decision!

Type

You may have noticed earlier that there are various types of cooling pillows. There are pillows that use PCM’s or “Phase-Changing Materials”, conduction, and/or evaporation to ensure you’re staying cool. Pillows that utilize PCMs absorb your body heat when changing from solid to not-so-solid. These are actually very similar to the PCMs that NASA utilizes in its spacesuits to keep astronauts comfortable! This means if you’re too cold, the pillow won’t absorb as much body heat, and when you’re feeling hot, it will absorb more to keep you cool!

Conduction is the most common form used, and is actually pretty similar to the pillows you already own; the only difference is that some kind of cooling agent is added. Waters and gels naturally transfer body heat away, making you cooler. Think about if you’re holding a cold water bottle. The bottle makes you feel colder, but after a while it will become less cold due to absorbing your body heat!

Finally, the pillows that use evaporation and air flow work because the air that is moving through will evaporate the moisture that’s on your skin when you get hot. This one is pretty simple, in comparison.

Materials Used

There are also various types of materials used in cooling pillows, and it depends on personal preference which one you get. These typically consist of all-natural ingredients, memory foam, or some combination of the two.

All-natural pillows don’t utilize gels or other synthetic cooling materials. Instead, items like corn husks or shells are used. This creates gaps in-between the material, encouraging air flow. While gel-lined pillows are typically certified safe, there are some who don’t like to use many synthetic materials in their lives, or have a sensitivity or other reason for not using them. If you do suffer from allergies or asthma, the ingredients (like corn husks) can aggravate them, so take that into consideration before buying.

Memory foam pillows utilize the same material that’s found in memory foam mattresses, in combination with some type of cooling material. As memory foam is quite dense, it can retain heat well, which is the opposite of what we want. This is why you’ll find a cooling agent added in. While they are typically a bit more expensive, the amount of luxury they provide is unbeatable. If you’re worried about your memory foam pillow retaining too much heat or being too blocky, there are shredded memory foam pillows which solve these issues. They can be molded to fit just about any sleeping position, and as the pieces are shredded, there is more air flow involved.

Finally, we have the combination pillows, which employ some combination of the above two. Some use natural methods of cooling, such as bamboo-sourced rayon to provide cooling, along with perhaps memory foam or even cooling gel.

Support

This is especially important if you’re already a sufferer of neck pain, or find that your current pillow is giving you pain. The high quality models shown here provide just the right amount of support, without being too stiff or too soft. The best ones for neck pain, are the ones that have specially-designed contours that support your neck and head and make sure your spine is properly aligned, regardless of your movements throughout the night. Pillows that are adaptable and respond to body heat and pressure are the best ones, as they decrease pressure points in your head, neck, and shoulders, thus, relieving any built-up pressure in your muscles.

Sleeping Position

This kind of coincides with the previous point. Make sure your pillow is going to support you well, and make sure you are aware of your sleeping position/s. Many pillows are not ideal for stomach sleepers, as they are just too thick. However, we have listed a couple that work great for stomach sleepers, but are too thin for back or side sleepers. It all depends on you and what you’re looking for.

Price

This is an obvious one. If you’re on a budget, then know that memory foam is oftentimes more expensive than other pillows. However, we have listed some memory foam cooling pillows on here that are great for those pinching pennies or not wanting to spend a ton of money on a pillow. In contrast, many pillows made of synthetic materials are often cheaper than pillows made with down, or other natural materials. You can even find some pillows with shredded synthetic materials that have the consistency of down, without the high price tag!

Durability

This goes hand-in-hand with price. If you’re looking at a pillow that is twice as expensive as another, you may instinctively go with the less-expensive one. However, take into consideration that the more expensive pillow may last you three times as long as the cheaper one, so you’d actually be saving money in the long run by going with the more expensive one. Whichever pillow you’re looking at, make sure to pay attention to the warranty included. Some will include a mere 30-day warranty, while others include a whopping 5-year one.

Conclusion

We only put products of the highest quality on our buying guides, so that’s not something you should ever worry about. However, some products are going to fit you better than others. For example, if you’re a side sleeper, you’re probably not going to want to go for a pillow that’s as thin as a stomach sleeper would prefer.

We have a couple favorites; the first one, is the Coop Home Goods Cooling Pillow. It is made with bamboo-derived viscose rayon, which provides natural cooling to those who use it. It includes shredded memory foam which provides further cooling through air flow. The shredded material also makes it ideal for stomach sleepers, as you can adjust it however you’d like.

You’re not stuck with one shape. Our other favorite, is the ViscoSoft Arctic Gel pillow that uses a whole two pounds of cooling gel, along with comforting memory foam. As if the cooling gel weren’t enough, it includes polyester fibers that encourage air flow, making sure the memory foam doesn’t retain excess heat. It’s perfect for those with neck issues, and supports the neck, head, and shoulders in proper alignment all night long. Thanks for sticking with us, but now it’s time for you to go on and purchase the best cooling pillow!
